Swale Workshop, Working Bee and Picnic Lunch

Saturday 25 July, 9.30am- 3pm, lunch at 12.30

You are invited to join us for our (new) first working bee this coming Saturday! We will be digging swales for water storage, mulching them, and weeding couch grass so that our lovely edible plants will be able to grow.

To start the bee there will be a swale workshop led by Cam Wilson from Earth Integral. You’ll learn what swales are, how to survey the land to incorporate them into your landscape, and how to build them. If you’d like to read a little bit about swales before Saturday, try this informative blog.

The plan for the day is as follows:
9.30am- Registration
10am- Welcome and induction
10.15am- Swale workshop
10:30am- Tools out and get to work!
12.30pm- Shared picnic lunch
1.30pm- Back to work
3pm- Finish

You’re welcome to come for the full 5 hours, or to simply come along for as long as you can (even if it’s just for the picnic!). Kids are welcome under parental supervision.

Please bring:
Gardening gloves and sturdy shoes
Any of the following tools that you can (don’t forget to label them!):
Spades and shovels
Garden forks
Metal rakes
Fireman’s hoe
A plate of food to share for the picnic lunch
Drinking water to stay hydrated, and a thermos of hot water (we’ll provide coffee and tea)
Something to sit on for the picnic, and to sit on while weeding if the ground is wet.
A hat and sunscreen
Warm clothing layers

If the weather turns foul and we have to cancel we will post a notice by 9am here on the blog, as well as on our Facebook page.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us at lyneham.commons@gmail.com

Hope to see you there!
